The Sinhala School of Mutur

Mutur is an isolated town in Trinco district. The governments who have come to the power with Sinhala votes have neglected these people who have become a direct target of LTTE Tamil Terrorists. Many times Sinhala school batted by Terrorists attacks. Most of the properties were  destroyed due to the war with Terrorists. The only Sinhala school had to moved to the Mutur Buddhists temple as 43 Sinhala families came back to their original lands despite of Tamil Terrorist threats.

21st June 1991, The school reopened with 3 Sinhala children in side the Uthurugiri Buddhist temple. Today it is catering to children of 43 Sinhala families and other Tamil and Muslim children in Mutur.

Uthurugiri Viharaya is a Buddhist Temple which sheltered Mutur Sinhala School for many years.

Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero and some members of Helabima organization have visited Mutur Sinhala School to find out what can be done to help this school. Dharmavijaya Foundation handed over some educational items to distribute among the students.
